📌 How can a sworn translation from English to Spanish be done?

The process is very simple:

  1. Scan the documents you need translating or take a clear photograph of them (that can be read without any problems).
  2. Send us the scanned document and indicate the target language, i.e. the language into which you want it translating.
  3. You will receive a quote the same day.
  4. Once you have accepted the quote, in 3-4 days you will receive the translation of your document (scanned copy) and a physical copy at the address you have given.

📌 Who can do a sworn translation?

A sworn translation can only be done by a sworn translator appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. Not all students of the Translation and Interpreting Degree can take on this type of commission. In fact, sworn translators, also called public translators, have passed tough exams that authorise them to do this kind of work.

📌What must an official translation include?

An official translation must consist of:

  • The translation of the text in the document (any numbers must also be included in the sworn translation).
  • A description of the stamps, images and signatures in the document.
  • A certificate by the certified public translator guaranteeing that the translation is complete and true to the original.
  • The stamped copy of the original document.
  • The stamp and signature of the translator on every page.

I’m leaving two links in this section. The first will take you to a blog explaining how to find a certified public translator quickly and effectively. The second is a direct link to the official website of the Spanish government, where you will find the official list of sworn translators.

📌 How much does a certified English to Spanish translation cost?

The price of a sworn translation can be calculated per document or per word.

💲 Price per word

The price of a sworn English-Spanish translation can range from €0.10 to €0.12 € + VAT.

💲 Price per document

A one- to two-page document will have a unit price of €45-55 + VAT.

💲 How to get a cheaper official sworn translation

  • Minimum rate. You should send all the documents for translation together, as translation companies have a minimum rate. This will ensure you avoid paying several minimum rates.
  • Urgent translations. Don’t wait until the last minute to request your sworn translation, because companies often apply a surcharge of 20-30% for urgent commissions.

💲 How to calculate the price of an official sworn translation

To get an approximate calculation of how much your translation will cost, simply open your document in Word to see how many words are in your document. The document is most likely in PDF format. If you don’t know how to complete this process, here’s a tutorial to explain how to convert a PDF file into Word and find out how many words are in your document.

📌 Can an official sworn translation be done online?

Yes, of course. All you need is the scanned document or a clear photograph of the document you want translating and indicate the target language. It is no longer necessary to look for a sworn translation company in Barcelona, Madrid or Valencia. Thanks to technology, everything is much easier and you won’t waste any time.

📌 How long will it take to receive a sworn translation?

The delivery time will depend on two main factors:

🕗 The amount of text to be translated

To give you an idea, you will normally receive the translation of 1-6 pages in 3-4 working days. However, if you require the translation of a very large document, this will take longer.

🕗 The language combination

If it is a very common language combination (Spanish, English, German, French, etc.), the delivery times will be shorter than if you need a document translating into Danish. In the case of the latter, because of the scarcity of sworn translators, the delivery time for the sworn translation will depend on the availability of the professionals.

📌 Which documents must be translated by a sworn translator?

All public documents that you have to submit abroad or in Spain must be translated into one of the official languages of the target country (residency permits, certificates, academic qualifications, etc.).

It is also sometimes necessary to provide a certified translation of private documents, such as contracts, bank statements, company articles of association, bank account holder certificates, medical certificates, etc.
